It was “love at first sight” when Sherry met the new additions to make up her family, Rocky & Adrianne. My first contact with Sherry was when she was inquiring about where to buy a Vizsla puppy. She had been waiting years, after losing her precious young Vizsla in a tragic accident, to be in a position to have another. Her plan was to get a puppy and then maybe a rescue Vizsla. We got to talking and I asked her to take a look at Rocky & Adrianne’s picture and story. After seeing them, she was hooked. She submitted her application and started telling everyone about them and that she might be able to get them. Sherry called to tell me and we talked for quite awhile. When she said she wanted to be their new “mommy”, I was pretty well convinced that we had found the perfect home for these two. She wanted them both and could not fathom separating them.

The only problem was, Sherry lives in Sparks, NV. As luck would have it, maybe I should call it destiny, I found a VCA member nearby who was able to do a home check for us. The next hurdle was to arrange transportation. That did not pose a problem, Salt Lake City was just about halfway for Sherry and I, and Rebecca lives in Salt Lake City. Arrangements were made, Rebecca agreed to put me up overnight. The next hurdle was that Sherry was moving into her new home that she waited to buy so she could have her dog. The movers were not very cooperative, they were about a week late delivering her furniture and it looked like we were going to have to wait 2 more weeks to get Rocky & Adrianne to their new home.

Well the movers delivered Sherry’s furniture the morning of June 13^th and Sherry was off for Salt Lake City by 9am. I would like to say that Rocky & Adrianne were instantly in love and they were very happy with Sherry, but everything was new and different and they were very confused. They clung to me and were cordial to everyone else. These two have had a lot of changes in their life in the month and a half in rescue. BUT, when Sherry got them home they were relaxed and very happy. They seemed to know that they were finally HOME!!!!!

They checked out their new home and picked out their places to sleep, in bed with new mom, Sherry. I don’t think Sherry will spoil them too much, ha, ha! She is so in love with those two and they with her. 

I want to thank all the volunteers who had a hand in bringing this family together – Dawn Gable for buying 3 more days till rescue could get them, Polly Mahlman for picking them up and fostering them for the first 3 weeks, Fran Mason for fostering, Chris Hotz for doing the home check, Rebecca & Daryl Dowdell for putting up with us overnight, Phyllis Chatterton for coming over mid-day to let them outside while I was fostering them and having to go to work, and last, but by all means, Sherry Dudinsky for adopting her two new red children. And, of yes, Rita (me) transporting and fostering. Wow!!! What a team.

UPDATE: (July 20, 2004)

Well these two pooches have won the hearts of everyone who knows them. They go to doggie day-care every week day and love it. Tony spoils them rotten with trips to the lake every day and off leash running in the park. Fortunately, they still love momma best and when they get home they just
want to sit and kiss and play.

Addy is a real ham, she pulls my clothes out of the bedroom and rolls on them joyfully, and Rocky is learning how to play ball and even takes toys from Addy now to run with himself. He still prefers to sit with me and let her spaz, but they have taken to making laps around the furniture in the early evenings. They both sleep with  me, and mornings are all wiggly butts and tongue baths from them.

Addy weighs in at 47 lbs and Rocky is trimming at 63lbs. They are happy, loving pets and I cannot imagine my life without them. When I get a digital camera, I will send some photos, but just imagine two happy, shiny Vizslas, grinning and panting, or laying like rubber chickens all over the livingroom, and that is Rocky and Addy. Right now, I think I'll take them to the big lake up the road and let them have a splash.
