Success Stories:
Lucy

 March 24, 2007 – May 5, 2007

As told by her former owner: Lucy’s birthday is July 21, 2001. Our family bought her from a Kansas breeder and took her home that Sept. She is small and skinny weighing 40 pounds. She has a great appetite but she burns it off since she is high energy. She has been very loved and never abused whatsoever in our home. She still will cower and growl at only some strangers she doesn’t like. Others she will immediately warm up to. I think she has her own sense about certain people. She really likes kids and women but is afraid of some men, not all. She loves my husband, of course.

My kids were 5 and 8 when we got her. She has always adored them and it has been mutual. Unfortunately, we have discovered I am allergic to dogs and should not have one in the home. It wasn’t noticeable when we first got Lucy but it has gradually gotten worse over time. We have tried banning her from certain rooms but I have had no improvement.

She is a great watchdog and very protective. We pray she finds a good home. We will miss her a lot.

Lucy’s new mom, Jen, tells us how Lucy is doing in her new home - After a rough first month, she has made beautiful progress and is the sweetest, most affectionate girl ever. We love her very much. The timidity pops up from time to time, like when we swat flies she still freaks out and hides and she is not thrilled with the daily skin spraying, but otherwise she is a happy girl. Her full time duties include stalking the cats and keeping Boone in line. We have even gotten her to swim a little with Boone. Initially, she seemed very afraid of the water, now she wades out to her chest without hesitation and play swims, followed by zooming through the reeds and bushes, she really is a hunter at heart. It is curious to see how very different she is from Boone, but in their differences they seem to balance each other. She came at a time when I was having to deal with helping my old Lab, Hunter, cross the bridge and having such a sweet girl who just wants to be with you every second has certainly made my grieving a little more bearable. - Jen
