I first discovered Lazer on the Petfinder's website. He was listed as up for adoption at the Hays, KS Humane Society. His owner has surrendered him because he was going off to college. I tried to find some help in transporting him from KS to CO without success. So I put out a plea for help with gas to go get him and got an overwhelming response of donations and pledges.

After making arrangements to pick Lazer up, Rick and I took off early on Saturday morning, July 22, 2000. After 9 hours of driving we finally reached the shelter and got a look at Lazer. His picture on the web was deceiving. In person he had a huge amount of white on him and an undocked tail and still had his dew claws, but had to be at least 99% Vizsla, if not 100%. He was also in not very good condition. While we were there my husband said let's look around. We found three more that could have been Vizsla mixes. We decided to take the youngest on in addition to Lazer. We named him Morgan, but that is another Success Story.

When I brought Morgan out to the lobby with Lazer, Lazer aggressively lunged at Morgan. I thought, fine, now what do I do? The shelter gave us another crate since we only came prepared to take Lazer. After completing the paperwork we headed home. Our trip was an 18-hour round trip. We got home at midnight.

He absolutely LOVES to ride in the car, so I would take him with me to my office and he was a PERFECT ANGEL. Like most rescues he suffers from separation anxiety. After a couple of weeks he was able to be outside with all my dogs and just LOVED to run and play with them.

It was becoming difficult to find a home for him because of the fence jumping and cat situation. We did place him with a family that let him be the pack leader and that didn't work out at all. He was VERY, VERY bad.

When that didn't work out he was placed with another family that said they would be able to work with his problems. The wife did not tell me she was pregnant and it became too much of a job to work with Lazer. They had him for five months and back to rescue he came.

Almost one year, from the time we picked him up in Hays, KS, new adoption papers were signed and he is with his new family. I feel this is it this time. His new parents understand his problems, they had another dog with worse anxiety than Lazer's, plus Lazer is on new medication, Clomicalm & Alprazolam. This is working. They also have the time to devote to him. He went to their home for a trial period. They fell in love with him and after two weeks they felt that they could handle him. Lazer bonded with their adult son and sleeps on his bed. Which is what he wanted to do the whole time he was with us.

This boy has a second chance at life. It took awhile, but we found him the perfect home in Aurora, CO, with Linda & Crawford.
