Guen fka Kayla was owner surrendered December 2006. She is a 16 month old, purebred, female Vizsla. She was not up to date on her shots and she was intact. When we took her to our vet for her vet work and to be spayed she was found to be heartworm positive. Her previous owner was contacted and had no idea what heartworms were and offered to pay her expenses. This never happened.

Guen fka Kayla turned out to be a very smart girl. She had to be to survive in her previous environment. She is a protective young girl, and was also guarding the baby in her previous home. She was used to being the pack leader so she had a lot of learnin’ to do.

She was treated for heartworms in KS, she tested heartworm negative and returned to CO to find her forever home.

Guen fka Kayla was adopted on March 18th by Sarah. Sarah has a lot of experience with dogs and training. She was fully educated on Guen fka Kayla’s need for a strong and consistent pack leader. Sarah realizes that it can take time to establish her permanent pack leader status. From Sarah’s reports things are going just fine and Guen fka Kayla is a very happy girl. She gets to come up on the couch only when invited and will cuddle in my lap.

Guen fka Kayla is willing to go up the stairs now and she has been to two of my training classes. She was a little nervous at first, however she did a wonderful job staying when I would work with another dog. On Friday she went to daycare for half a day and she did very well. She did well when I gave her a bath and even didn’t seem to mind the dryer. Things are going just fine. - Sarah

       Guen fka Kala Update – April 24, 2007

Kayla is doing very well. I have renamed her Guenivere, but I just call her Guen. She is very responsive to her new name. She even did well when she was in daycare with me and I had to keep yelling at a German Shepherd named Calah. She herds dogs with toy balls, so I've been working with that dog to stop that. Anyway, Guen is having a blast in daycare she graduated to the big sized the other day, and jumped right in. She didn't know what to think of the Irish wolfhound, but she soon warmed up to him. She is very cuddly with the other people in daycare. We are still working on new people coming up to her. She does a warning bark if someone spooks her or if someone walks straight up to her, but not all the time, so it is getting better. She also does this when I'm taking her out to potty and she sees another dog, but now it has turned into a play bark and bowing. We also went to the Vizsla club meeting and games. We just sat and watched. Guen stayed right by me most of the time, but did finally warm up to a few people. Her tail was still tucked but she would go up to people on her own and if they had cookies. Overall she is doing well. We are working towards are CGC. I'm teaching a CGC class right now, and hopefully she will be ready when my class takes the test. - Sarah
