10/18/00 – 10/25/00

Jake was released into rescue by his owners on October 15, 2000 after being neutered. His owner’s loved him dearly, but had to give him up because he bit a child in their home. They were concerned to find him a good home and contacted rescue to help them with this task. Jake was about 1 ½ yrs old and extremely affectionate. He is very gentle and good natured. He loves attention and likes to where his owner is at all times, typical “velcro” Vizsla.

Jake found his forever home on October 25, 2000 with Bill & Sydney in Lyons, CO. They have no children so it should be a perfect fit for Jake. He has settled in and loves his new home. They find him very well behaved and a lovely dog. The family cat is taking a little time getting used to having a canine unit in “her” home.

UPDATE: 2/8/03

Jake or “Jake the Snake “ as he is affectionately called,  joined us at the end of October '99. He was a beleaguered and confused 1-1/2 year old sweetie. He loved the family he came from, but proved to be a liability when he bit one of the family's children.

My information was that "he broke the skin on the inside of their 7 year old's nose". I eagerly agreed to take the dog with the thought that the incident was more likely a response to teasing than a real "bite". After all, if he truly meant to bite the child, the result would have been much more evident.

But the weeks that preceded his arrival had taken their toll on him. He had been removed from the only family he'd ever known, been neutered and had a brief stay with a kind stranger. He was skinny to the point that his skin seemed stretched taut over his skeleton. Every rib showed distinctly and his spine protruded up grotesquely. My mother said he was one of the ugliest dogs she'd seen in a long time. He was afraid of his own shadow. He didn't trust us much either. But that was then.

A year after his arrival I received a huge compliment from his vet. She said, "What a shame. It seems you had to give up and get a second dog." I explained that this was the same dog she'd seen a year earlier, but he'd put on a little weight and calmed down considerably. He had regained his confidence, too. The vet was very surprised - she really believed this was a different dog. And so he is.

I'm very grateful to the Vizsla Rescue Group that made it possible for Jake to live with our family. He is a joy to have around and makes everyone smile. He prances and clowns at the dog park. He plays well with other dogs. He loves the river in the summertime and enjoys long walks whenever they're offered. My brother-in-law thought I was bragging when I said that just about every 3rd stranger stops to ask about the breed of my dog. Then he went walking with me and found it was no exaggeration. Thank you for getting us together!
