Jack Jr. is a purebred Vizsla, approximately 2 yrs old. I told my assistant, in jest, that I think I needed a saddle for this guy. He was over 71# and 27” tall. I had never seen such a large Vizsla before. His origin (breeders) are from the Midwest and that is about all we know about him.

When I got him in as an owner surrender, I learned that he was a dominant male. He marked 3 times in my dog room and the next day he marked twice in my living room. I yelled at him both times and he got the picture and I didn’t have a problem with him anymore. I bought him a toy stuffed squeaky Quail which he just loved. I had not done this before, but while I was in PetsMart, I got this urge to buy this toy. It became like his pacifier. When given the command “give” he dropped it in my hands and would retrieve it when thrown.

For his size, Jack was a very gentle dog. He had manners, would not jump up on you, just in front of you without touching you. He knew “sit”, “down”, “come”, and learned kennel up. He was housebroken, got along with all my cats, did not counter surf and would go in any open crate when he felt it was time to go to bed. I found that he was also a lap dog, but he didn’t push it, he waited to be invited. I think he had some hunting experience.

Jack Jr. was adopted by Jerry from Idaho Falls, ID in cooperation with UT/ID Vizsla rescue. Jerry drove from his home in ID to Fort Collins, CO to pick up Jack. We had a storm blow in so Jerry was anxious to get on the road with Jack since it was a long ride back home. They did make it home ahead of the storm with some tricky roads traversed.

Jerry told me that Jack was a little stressed being in his new home. He had just started getting used to his foster family. Jack is settling in and the good news is, he hasn’t marked in Jerry’s home, yeah! He is eating well and going in the truck with Jerry when Jerry goes shopping. It is so cute, I am sure Jerry spent many dollars on supplies for Jack before he even met him. What a lucky dog. He got a new crate, new bed, new toys, good food, and his very own person to love and love him. Another happy beginning. - Rita
