Avo spent a month in rescue foster care where his foster family worked on some basic training and focused on controlling and modifying some of his dominant behaviors. His main behavioral problem was ‘possessiveness’. With some work, his foster family was able to get him to respond to basic commands and give up objects he prized without showing aggression. Within a couple of weeks he had adjusted to the routine of his foster family. He loved to play with the other vizslas in the house and loved to take long walks. He could wrestle for hours with the other dogs without tiring, even though there were three of them!

After a few weeks in his foster home, and his vet check showed he was a very healthy young vizsla, the rescue group began looking for a family for him. He needed a family who had the patience and time to work with him; a family with much energy; and a family willing to continue with the training that had been started in his foster home.

On January 7, 2002 Avo was adopted by a couple who fit the required profile. His new family renamed him ‘Hank’. ‘Hank’ now lives in Denver with his new family, which also includes a beagle and two cats. Having never lived with cats, there has been some adjustment for Hank AND the cats. Hank would love to play with the cats, but the cats don’t have that same mutual feeling towards Hank!!

Hank gets long daily walks in the ‘City Park’ in Denver. His new owners are hopeful that they can train Hank to hunt. He has shown great interest in the pheasant feather they bought for training and is able to find the hidden feather in their backyard. Hank attends ‘obedience school’ and is adjusting very well in his new home. His owners are very happy with Hank and have discovered a few pleasant surprises about Hank---he is becoming increasingly affectionate and is a great lap dog!! Hank reports that he is very happy with his new owners too!!
