Success Stories:
DUBLIN

 January 9 – February 27, 2005

Dublin came back into rescue in January. The previous family’s dog was tired of Dublin’s endless energy. The family tried, but it just wasn’t working out.

In February a wonderful family was found for Dublin where there was no other dog. There were cats, and they are tolerating each other. Here is Dublin’s new success story in Gretchen’s own words:

"Hi Rita! I can't believe he's really ours! We had the BEST weekend!!! On Saturday morning at 7am I took Dublin to the new dog park that Alyssa told me about in Broomfield. It's about 5 minutes from our house. I thought that would be a good time to take him because I thought maybe there wouldn't be any other dogs there. Jocelyn had explained that he's a little aggressive on a leash and I wasn't sure how he'd be in the dog park situation, so I wanted to go when there was no one else there. Alyssa also said there were two sides to the dog park, so I figured we could go on the small dog side if there was anyone else in the large dog part... There was no one there when we arrived, but we went to the small side anyway. He ran and chased the ball repeatedly for a while and was having such fun. Then Rocky and his owner arrived and went on the big dog side. Rocky was a golden retriever, and Dublin was very friendly through the fence to Rocky. Soon they were running up and down the fence with each other expending plenty of energy! Another lady then arrived and went to the big dog side and as we got to talking, she said that based on how friendly Dublin was being, she was willing to come over to our side to play... and Dublin was GREAT!!! He didn't even bark - just played like crazy with her two dogs.

Later that afternoon Paul and I took him back together and it was VERY crowded. Dublin acted like a gentleman with every dog in that dog park and people were actually telling us what a nice dog he was.

Yesterday we took him super early and then later in the afternoon, too. He was so tired last night he put himself to bed (he just walks into his crate around 9 or 9:30 every night) a little before 8pm! AND, this morning, Paul said either he was still tired, or he's just getting better, but he didn't pull even once on his run with him. He just ran like a perfect partner the entire 4 miles!

On the kitty front, all has been going well, too. We determined this weekend that Munchkin will surely run the roost. Dublin is SCARED of her and that's why he's been trembling. She's been very snotty, which we're trying to figure out how to handle. They've come nose to nose a few times now, and she'll inevitably hiss and make a move towards him and he gets scared and backs away and whimpers. It's SO sad, but we found it encouraging anyway! :-) We're still a little concerned because we're not sure how long he'll put up with her acting like that and actually fight back... Last night Dublin was laying on Paul's lap on the lazy boy before bed and Paul was drinking a glass of milk.

Munchie jumped up right on the edge of the chair! When Dublin heard her, he raised his head and she gave him a quick hiss before focusing back on the milk! He just put his head back down and ignored her. We were ecstatic! Of course as soon as she realized Paul wasn't giving her milk, she didn't stick around, but still! She's getting braver and seems happy that he backs away from her...Gretchen"
