Bruce is a
young Vizsla/Lab mix pup, approximately 9 months old. He is a typical puppy
in that he just wants to have fun and not have any rules. While being
fostered at my home, he had a lot of distractions and did mostly what he
wanted to do. I have several Vizslas of my own, so there were many
distractions. I also live in the country and there are many rabbits that go
through my property. One day he discovered a gate that he didnt know was
there. When my husband went through the gate, Bruce was through it before
you could spit and after a rabbit he spotted. It was quite a chore getting
him back in the yard, since he didnt think calling his name meant he was
supposed to come to us. From then on we couldnt keep him in the fenced
yard; he had to be on a long line.
Paige filled out an adoption application, passed the home check and came out
to meet Bruce. She was the second one to meet him. Paige brought her
roommate and a friend. I think Paige fell in love with him then and there.
Since I was making a trip to Salt Lake to transport Rocky & Adrianne, I
asked Paige if she would like to baby sit Bruce and try him out and she came
and picked him up. When I got back, I called her and she said everything was
working out fine, there were a few incidents that were worked out and she
loved him and wanted to keep him. Paige is a small college girl and Bruce is
a big, 71# puppy. I told her, lets give it till the end of the week and see
how things go.
Well here they are, a new family. She really has him under control and going
to consult a trainer.
Donny (now Bruce) overcame some large hurdles and almost didnt make it out
of my home. I didnt think he was going to calm down and be adoptable. Just
shows what a little patience can do.
Paige says that when she does allow him in bed with her, he curls up under
the covers. How cute is that? - Rita |
