The KS
Vizslas Three Amigos (siblings)

Cisco, Riley & Miss
Polly Purebred
09/17/2003
The plight of the Three
Amigos came to our attention around the second week of September 2003. One pup, a
female showed up on Ebay, which set Vizsla lovers in an uproar. Turned out that the origin
of this pup was western KS, which was very close to our KS volunteer. She checked
everything out and reported to me that there were in fact three pups and that this person
saved the pups from being shot in the head.
This person did agree to surrender these
pups to our rescue volunteer, but he needed to be reimbursed for his expenses. It turns
out that if a broker doesnt buy all the pups a puppy miller has to sell, the puppy
miller lets the pups that are left loose in the field and uses them for target practice.
PEOPLE, THIS IS WHAT GOES ON IN THE
PUPPY MILL WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The truth came out about a week ago. The puppy miller places the
pregnant bitch and sometimes the stud in a home for someone to whelp the pups. He has
these people register the dogs in their names and pays all expenses. The kicker is, he has
a contract that states that the pups belong to the puppy miller, and like Cruella DeVille,
comes to get the pups when they are old enough to be sold to the broker. In the case of
the Three Amigos (sister & 2 brothers), there were nine in the litter and
only six were sold. So indeed these three were going to be shot in the head. Soooooo, we
paid for the pups, which is only done in dire straits and they are all in their forever
homes, and very happy.
Cisco & Riley came to Colorado to live
and Miss Polly Purebred was adopted by a very nice gentleman who lost his Vizsla of 13
years. Cisco & Riley both had calluses on their hocks, which is very unusual for pups
that are raised in a loving home environment. It is most likely that these boys were kept
in a very small cage. We dont know for sure.

This
is Leo and Miss Polly Purebred, Leo has owned nothing but Vizslas since 1967. This will be
his 4th V in all those years. Leo's last V Sissy died of cancer, he was so heartbroken
that he contacted rescue on the recommendation of his vet. As you can see it was a match
from the first day. Leo came to pick his new dog up with a pheasant wing in his pocket. As
you can see, Polly found it right away.
In all his
years of owning Vizslas, his wife never allowed him to keep his V in the house at night.
Miss Polly is the first. She is allowed in the house. She went home to a brand new crate
and blanket. Leo and Polly go out 3 times a day to play together. Leo calls once a week to
let us know how Polly is doing.
Polly was rescued by CWVRG
from a possible bullet to the head. Her rescue was a combined effort of several V lovers.
She now is very happy in her new home. Leo's wife calls her "the other woman".
Leo asked me to be sure and thank all who helped bring Polly into his life, she brings
great joy into his heart.
UPDATE: 11/14/03
Leo called with news about Miss Polly. He took her out today for one of their daily
outings and took his shotgun with him just to get her used to the gun. He said he had no
plans on shooting the gun. Well, Miss Polly pointed out 3 pheasants so he shot and hit all
3, not with one shot Im sure. 2 landed in the weeds and Leo figured they were lost.
Miss Polly brought both birds to him and laid them at his feet. She is just 5 months
old!!!!! Leo says that he has never had a dog do this well ever, he wasn't planning on any
hunting training until next spring!!!
She isn't gun shy, and knows what's she's doing. He says that she is the best dog he
has ever had. He told me to be sure and let everyone know that helped rescue her, that we
saved the love of his life, and that words cannot express how wonderful Vizsla Rescue is.
I would say that is proof that the right dog went with the right man and we helped put a
life time companionship together.
He loves the breed, the dog, and she loves him and knows him.
Update: March '04:
March 12, 2004 Update: Here is Leo and
his beautiful Vizsla named Sweet Polly Purebred at 6 months of age. Leo says
that they have not done any serious hunting yet, "she's still a puppy"
"we've only gotten 30 birds. Polly on one of their play runs, tracked a
pheasant for 8 minutes, found the bird, pointed it, then in true fashion flushed the bird.
"That was good eating!! Polly enjoyed her share of that bird!!"

Leo
stated that you have to make everything you teach a V fun, and they in turn make sure that
you have fun. These 2 have a lot of fun, they go everywhere together, as Mrs. Bird refers
to Miss Polly as "the other woman". I think this picture says it all, and I just
received another rescue pay check, this is what rescue is all about, 1 dog, 1
man and the perfect match!

Cisco/Teddy

Teddy is now Cisco, and he is absolutely
wonderful! We are enjoying him so much; obviously he was meant for us, and us for
him! He is learning fast, a smart boy. He's affectionate and has adjusted
quite well.

My stepdaughter, her boyfriend, and their
dog, Sage, came up from Gunnison for the weekend. Saef and Cisco had a great time,
although they had their moments of jealousy and not wanting to share toys, but all-in-all,
it was a very good experience, especially for Cisco. Rick has taken him on hikes
twice, and we all took both dogs today. Cisco does amazingly well on a leash, too.
We laugh at all his loose skin, and wonder just
how big he's going to get! The 3 cats have adjusted better than expected, also. We
are so happy to have him in our family, and he is giving us a lot of joy.
We look forward to lots more fun and
watching and helping him develop.
