CHELSEA: 02/12/2002
Chelsea was picked up as a stray by the Hays, KS shelter in February, 2002. We believe that Chelsea was used as a puppy factory. Chelsea is between 4 and 5 years old and has probably had a litter every time she came in season. She is a very submissive girl and would just as soon be a couch potato in whatever room you are in. She is very, very sweet and doesn't seem to have an aggressive bone in her body. She is so thankful when you give her any attention. She tries to avoid any kind of confrontation and loud voices. Her 8 pups were born on March 9th, 6 days after we received. All pups were healthy and big. There were 5 girls and 3 boys. Two black, 5 chocolate and one that has Vizsla coloring. The dad could be a purebred Black Lab or a Lab/Vizsla mix. The puppies were spayed and neutered, wormed, and given their first shots, before being placed in their forever homes.
About 4 days after her pups were born; Chelsea started to act younger as each day passed. She was a real happy and loving girl. By the time she was spayed, when the pups were just about 8 weeks old, she had gained 8 lbs. from the day she had her pups. That is more than a pound a week. She looked almost "fat". When we got her you could see her backbone sticking up about ½" and when she went to her forever home you couldn’t see it at all.
When we got her she had large and baggy teats, almost like a cow’s udders. We thought that she might have to have corrective surgery, but she surprised us again. She is shrinking up to almost a normal size. By the time she left rescue she was also running almost as fast as my own dogs. When we got her she had no muscle tone in her rear thighs. Her recovery is truly a miracle; she was in such bad shape when we got her, malnourished, dehydrated and extremely skinny. She looked like a normal mama Vizsla when she left here.
Chelsea and 7 pups were adopted in one weekend and the last one the following weekend. Most went to homes in the Denver and surrounding area. Three pups were adopted out of state, one in UT, one in WY, and one to Phillipsburg, KS.
Chelsea was adopted by a very loving person and is now living in Thornton, CO. She is spoiled daily and gets to sleep in bed with her new mom, Janet.
