Rudy
July 4, 2005 – September 12, 2009

Rudy came home with me on July 4th. A long car ride home, Rudy slept most of the
way. I let Rudy check out the house at his own pace, and spent the first few
hours at home with him and Maggie, making sure that I was around and in his
sight. We took several walks that day, to familiarize Rudy with the
neighborhood. He’s got it down now and knows where home is!
Maggie, my Vizsla was a bit put out by the addition of Rudy and has been on
strike now for a few days. This means flat out ignoring both Rudy and me! She
finally warmed up to him and I found them playing and wrestling in the living
room shortly after I adopted him.
Rudy is an absolute joy. He has been the easiest transition and provides nothing
but snuggles in bed, kisses and tons of tail wagging. We’re getting into a good
routine, and a typical Vizsla he’s smart. He knows already what the alarm clock
means, where we walk each morning and evening, when breakfast and dinner is,
etc. Thanks so much for this wonderful addition – Samantha
Sad news, I just wanted to let you know that Rudy passed away on September 12th.
He had to be euthanized. On Tuesday evening of that week, he started having
trouble breathing. I took him to the vet, and an x-ray showed massive amounts of
fluid in his chest/lungs, and a tumor mass in his chest. He was given medicine
to hopefully alleviate the fluid, and given the task to decide how to handle his
terminal situation. Within 24 hours of that vet trip, he was unable to walk,
struggling tremendously to breathe and not eating. I decided to euthanize him to
put him out of his pain, and give him the rest he was so desperately struggling
for.
It was an honor and pleasure to have Rudy in my life for the past four and a
half years. While I miss him, and Maggie, the 15 year old V I lost in September,
I hold tight to the light he brought to my life while I was his “mom”. Many
thanks. - Samantha
