Eureka

September 18, 2008 – October 10, 2008

Free to a Good Home. That is how Eureka a purebred, AKC registered Vizsla ended up in a breeder's kennel. He had been listed in a local paper “Free to a Good Home”. Eureka’s “good home” turned out to be a 6' x 6' kennel run, he was to be used as a stud dog to make his new owner money. He was fed little, barked too much, so the man rammed a pipe down his throat to damage the vocal cords to de-bark him. He also had buckshot in his head. To Eureka it looked like all hope of love had left him, until the state inspector showed up. The man was given the option of surrendering ALL his dogs or go to jail for abuse, he took the option to surrender his dogs!

That is how Eureka got his new name, and a start at a new life, he came to me, and the Vizsla Oasis. We healed his wounds, and started on healing his spirit and mind. I worked with him, I found NO aggression except one-------- he hated Simon, his fellow rescue from the same kennel. Simon is a puppy and Eureka tried to kill him once. I stopped him and worked very hard with him, and he seemed to be getting better every day. Until today, he for no reason attacked Simon, leaving Simon shaken and bleeding. I knew at that point as I was driving Simon to the vet what had to be done. Eureka needed to be released from his eternal demons. I held him close until he was gone, I shed a lot of tears in his honor, and then I got MAD!!!

Where was his breeder? Why was he placed in a home that couldn't keep him? Why was he given to this cruel man? Many mistakes were made in respect to Eureka, many people failed him, but I and CWVRG, Inc are not on that list. I did the right thing, even though it was hard, and I am still crying for my beautiful Eureka, I will see him again at the Rainbow Bridge. Yes, I know he's there, because God wouldn't let him live a horrible life, and there just be nothing.

Run Free Sweet Eureka, you were loved!! Polly
