Emma

January 15, 2004 – June 2009

I have no way to really do justice to the wonderful dog named Emma; she came into rescue as Autumn, an owner-surrender. She was kept with a Boxer in a back yard kennel, she wasn’t house broken, afraid of newspapers, men, and got into huge fights with the Boxer. The family decided that she needed to be re-homed, and called rescue to take her.

Rita decided to send her from CO to KS for me to re-train and I tried, but Autumn didn’t really need re-training she just wasn’t happy in her old home. So here in KS Autumn became Emma and picked her own family. Emma lived with her new family as if she had been there her entire life. She kept the family on their toes, was a delight on a daily basis and when the family was out of town Emma stayed with me. You see Emma picked one of my best friends to be her new Mom. It seemed that Emma was living a charmed life, a happy, loving home that understood Vizslas. But tragedy struck, Jnell had just come home from work, Emma was on the front porch in the sunshine. Jnell brought her in the house, Emma went in and got a drink of water, came into the bedroom where Jnell was changing her clothes. Emma whined, started to tremble and fell over. Jnell quickly picked her up, but Emma was gone, she had been poisoned.

I am sad to say that Emma was not the first, or the last to meet the same fate, it seems we have someone that was poisoning sporting breed dogs in our town. This unknown person’s poison of choice is raisins in a hamburger meat ball. Jnell doesn’t think that the meat ball was left for Emma, but was left for the neighbor’s dogs, a big yellow Lab and an out of control Britney, both of whom did die of the poisoning a few days later. They were not the only ones in town, but the one that breaks the most hearts was Emma.

Run free sweet Emma, see you at the bridge. Polly
