The Story of Coco fka Madi
August 5, 2010

“It’s Madi!” My mom and I shout as we rush to answer the door. We’re greeted by
a spunky, brown dog who immediately begins to search her new home.
This is the beginning of the next four years with my new best friend. Madi,
later named Coco, was the most loving, loyal dog on the planet. Things weren’t
always easy, though. Coco came with a fear of females, who happen to make up the
majority of our household. She was afraid to bond and was constantly looking for
food. But as the months went on, Coco began to bond with her new pack. One year
later, Coco was a member of our family. She would join us for car rides, hikes
and loved to go places. Her favorite thing to do was hike with her people. She
would bound ahead, searching for anything interesting to smell and hear. But she
never went far. Every couple of minutes, she would dash back to make sure we
were still there. One of the things I liked best was that she slept in my room.
Originally, she slept in a different room. But then, she moved in onto my bean
bag chair. She began to wake me up at night, so we put her crate in my room and
she was there to stay. She was our Girl Scout Troop’s mascot. She loved to hang
out with us and help with activities. At night, she would curl up on our bed,
just because she hated to be left out. Everyone in the neighborhood adored my
little girl. People knew her for her spunk and happy personality. We would take
her out for walks and people would say, “Is that Coco? I love Coco.” The last
two months of her life, she began to get nervous and upset more when we left.
She began to climb our fence and run around. But we still thought she was the
best girl in the whole universe. When we went on vacation she stayed at doggie
care. Coco had been going there for years. She loved to run in their fenced acre
of land. But she climbed over the 6 foot fence and got hit by a car. She didn’t
make it. The owner of the doggie day care was with her when she passed away, but
we will all miss her very much. Everyone we told started to cry. She was the
most loved dog in the world. Even though we miss her, she is in heaven with God
now. The day we found out she died; we saw a complete double rainbow in the sky
and knew that Coco was watching us. She has a big place in all of hearts, and
that will never change. Thank you, Coco, for being so loyal and sweet, we will
never forget you.
A note from Coco’s “mom”: when Coco first came to us, she was a bit wild: a
counter surfer who would indulge in drive by chewing, as my husband put it, who
distrusted women. She bonded instantly to my husband, and then warmed up to my
daughter and me. Eventually she would follow me through the house, settling in
where ever I was. Her capacity for love was huge, and her sweetness immense. She
had an extremely high energy level, needing three walks/runs per day. Her death
is tragic and has left a huge hole we can’t possibly fill. She will be missed
and our entire neighborhood is in mourning. – Tatiana & Marica
