I had the privilege of living with a Vizsla angel for the last year of her life.
What can you say about a dog that lived her last year like a shadow on earth?
She was not long for this world when I adopted her, but she found the resources
to live another year with me. She brought tremendous joy and compassion into my
life.
Her face looked like the reincarnation of my first Vizsla, Micka, even down to a
few white hairs on her back. She loved to go out first thing every morning and
walk all around my property with me, smelling the morning breezes and judging
the sunrise and weather. She played with my black border-collie mix, and they
enjoyed each other. She would spend the rest of the day lying around in the sun
sleeping. She loved to lay at my feet as I practiced piano. After a crazy life
of neglect and whelping puppies, she had found some ease and peace.
Sweetpea just could not put weight on. She was skin and bones, and ate at least
4 cups of puppy food every day. She did not have parasites, and ate very well.
Finally, after realizing that life on planet earth could be good, she gradually
ate less and less until she stopped eating and became very weak. I put her to
sleep in my arms on Saturday morning, July 28, 2007. That afternoon, I played
piano for her.
Soft and silky ears with
Deep vacant eyes that held a glimmer for me.
Quietly resting at my feet
Adoring the caress of velvet coat under chin.
Quietly dreams Sophia Sweetpea.
