Cabela
June 16, 2005 – August 1, 2005




When Cabela was only 14 hrs old (born June 24th, 2005), she found her forever home that included 3 kids, a cat and her mother, Sedona. We drove to 2.5 hrs to go meet her at Polly's house! From that day forward, Polly emailed us lots of pictures of this little girl who looked like Sedona. All of us fell deeply in love with this little girl and I printed out all the pictures Polly sent us and put them up on the refrigerator. Sedona thought she was very special because she gave her lots of extra attention and love too. As Cabela grew, I often called and got to hear her in the back ground protesting to Polly about nap time. She was way too busy to take time out for naps.

On July 31th, the family drove to pick up Cabela and Sedona and bring them home to their forever home. When we arrived, we found Cabela out in the yard chasing anything that moved. On the drive home, Cabela snuggled up next to me and slept. Once we arrived home, she had regained her energy and was ready to go bounding around out in the yard. However, the next morning Cabela was very tired, didn't want to get up and play, and didn't want to eat so I made an emergency appointment with my vet.

At the appointment the vet gave me the devastating news that Cabela had a congenital heart defect and her heart just couldn't keep up with the increased oxygen demands of her growing body. There was no repair possible since she was so young. All that could be done was to eliminate her suffering by helping her cross over the Rainbow Bridge. We said our good-byes and thanked her for being part of our lives even though it was cut short. Cabela had a forever home for as long as her life was and she got to spend her last night snuggled up next to her mom, Sedona, and in her forever home surrounded by her family who loved her very much.

Cabela, I know you are out there playing and chasing butterflies......just waiting for us to come around the corner and scoop you up into our arms and give you a hug. Then set you down and chase you around. Have fun!! - Zena
