Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue
Group, Inc. (CWVRG) is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation, active rescue
organization whose main goal is to match Vizslas in need of a home with
loving families wanting to adopt a Vizsla. We are dedicated to providing
rehabilitation and foster care for abandoned or abused purebred Vizslas or
Vizsla mixes; to educate the community in regards to responsible dog
ownership, including the spay/neuter of companion animals; assisting
shelters by promoting awareness and working with shelter managers/directors
in our areas, and accepting or adopting shelter dogs as quickly as possible.
We are an independent Vizsla rescue group. We do, however, support and
assist the Vizsla Club of America (VCA) and other Vizsla rescue
organizations around the United States. Our purpose is to help the Vizsla
and the people who love and support the breed. As necessary, we offer
support to humane shelters that handle stray or surrendered Vizslas or need
assistance due to natural disasters.
It is our goal to leave no Vizsla in a designated area shelter or
surrendering home longer than it takes to arrange pickup/release of the
animal to Vizsla Rescue and foster care.
CWVRG currently covers Colorado, southern Wyoming, Kansas, and southern
Nebraska. We have a large group of member/volunteers who provide a variety
of services for the dogs we intake, including fostering, transporting and
conducting home visits/evaluations on prospective adopters. All rescued
Vizslas in our care are provided medical care (spay/neuter, shots, heartworm
& fecal tests, other medical treatment as needed, microchipping, etc). We
take a minimum of 2 weeks to evaluate each rescued Vizsla with respect to
temperament and compatibility with other animals and children. If needed,
our organization is equipped to provide rehabilitation to those animals that
have been traumatized and require additional support and care. Although
CWVRG, Inc. pays all medical costs prior to adoption, most of the costs of
fostering rescued Vizslas are covered by our volunteers, out of their own
pocket.
Once the Vizsla is ready to be adopted, we thoroughly examine the adoption
applications from prospective families to find as perfect a match as
possible. If we don’t have a family that is a good fit for one of our
rescues, we network with Vizsla rescue volunteers across the region to try
and match the dog to a loving permanent home.
Since we are a 501c3, nonprofit corporation and our funding comes through
individual donations, adoption donations, and participation in local fund
raising projects and internet options.
Our motto is “One dog at a time until there are none!”
Our goal is to
leave no Vizsla to die or suffer.
Remember “No matter how nice, a
shelter can never be a home”.
Code of Ethics
Breed Description: The Vizsla is a distinctively different breed of dog. The Vizsla was
bred to be a family as well as a hunting companion, accepting the
role of protector and friend.
The breed has survived countless wars
and centuries of limited and selective breeding and was re-bred from
near extinction and combines the finest in beauty, character and
hunting ability with a strong desire to please. Respect for this
heritage demands that the breed should never be allowed to become
less than the dog that still represents the National Dog of Hungary.
Sportsmanship:
Members/Volunteers shall always
conduct themselves in a professional manner when representing CWVRG,
Inc. regardless of the location or circumstances; protect and
advance the objectives of Vizsla rescue. Members/Volunteers will not
use their membership in CWVRG, Inc. for personal gain, religious
effort or for profit of any kind that is not the direct benefit of
CWVRG, Inc.
Health:
to maintain the best possible standard of canine health, cleanliness
and veterinary care in an atmosphere conducive to the stable
development of foster dogs in your care.
Rescued Vizslas: Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue Group, Inc. will not buy Vizslas in
order to get them into the rescue system. This encourages
volume/mass breeders and puppy mills to breed more Vizslas to end up
in rescue.
Exception:
We will, however, reimburse medical expenses in order to get puppies
out of the breeding population, on a case by case basis.
The Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue
Group, Inc. will not buy puppies from pet stores or auctions.
Exception:
can be made on a case by case basis and the President of the
Corporation will make the final decision.
Shelter Rescues:
A Vizsla that ends up in a shelter will be taken care of immediately as
follows:
Upon notification from a shelter that
they have a Vizsla in house, we will make arrangements to pull the
dog as soon humanly possible. A Vizsla will not be left in a shelter
unless we determine it is unadoptable.
Vizsla mixes:
We will only take Vizsla mixes in on
a case by case basis, if it is determined that at least one parent
is a Vizsla and the dog is adoptable and we have room to take it
in.
Members of CWVRG, Inc.
acknowledge the importance of responsible breeding and therefore
agree not to breed, or cause to be bred, more than two litters of
puppies per year. In unusual circumstances, a member-breeder may
apply to the Board for an exception.
Members of CWVRG, Inc.
who do breed, are expected to abide
by the VCA Code of Ethics.
Members of CWVRG, Inc.

will cooperate with each other and with other members of the animal
welfare community. When conflicts arise, members will apply to the
